Last year Microsoft introduced Microsoft Viva – a new tool designed to help employees thrive at work. Are you using it yet?

What exactly is Microsoft Viva?

Microsoft Viva is described an Employee Experience (EX) platform. An Employee Experience platform is a dedicated “one-stop shop” specifically for employees to access a variety of valuable resources, tools and other assets to support them during their day-to-day work, such as annual leave requests or payroll questions.

Microsoft Viva consists of four main elements: Viva Learning, Viva Insights, Viva Topics, and Viva Connections.

Microsoft Viva

Encourage a growth mindset with Microsoft Viva

The aim of Viva Learning is to accelerate the learning of individuals within an organisation by making learning a more of a natural part of everyday work.

Embedding Microsoft Viva within your organisation shows that you encourage a growth mindset. The growth mindset definition comes from a theory created by Stanford psychologist professor, Carol Dweck. This theory originated within education sector but soon was found within the business environment as well. To my knowledge, very few organisations currently have a growth mindset. How do I know this? Because a growth mindset must be embedded into the day-to-day workings of an organisation. And now with Viva Learning, Microsoft is hoping to bring the growth mindset to more organisations.

Along with a growth mindset, it is vital that individuals become more productive and support their own well-being in the workplace. Greater productivity comes with a better understanding of tools, technology and the business – and Microsoft Viva Learning helps with all of this. Improved well-being can be encouraged by understanding employees needs and only then can organisations make better decisions on how to support them.

Develop meditation and mindfulness skills with Headspace

Microsoft Viva Insights also comes with Headspace. Headspace is a mindfulness app that promotes science-backed meditation and mindfulness tools, to help create life-changing habits to support mental health. Research has shown that this app can increase focus by 14% and reduce mind wandering by 22% to ultimately support the development of a mentally and physically healthier workforce.

The aim of Viva Topics is to discover knowledge and expertise within an organisation. Topics uses machine learning to analyse content within the organisation and presents it in a way that improves the understanding of the organisation whether that be at a micro or macro level.

Viva Connections provides a platform that empowers employees to contribute. The idea of Viva Connections is to bring the organisation together, providing the ability for individuals, teams and departments to share and communicate as effectively as possible.

Embrace the value of Microsoft Viva

Powered by Microsoft 365, Microsoft Viva is an employee experience platform that brings together communications, knowledge, learning, resources, and insights in the flow of work.

Microsoft Viva is desgned to help people and teams do their best work using the apps and experiences they rely on every day to connect, collaborate, and get work done from anywhere.

In the era of hybrid working, work has rapidly transformed and to this end, many organisations are looking for new ways and new experiences for employees to connect and collaborate. Microsoft Viva represents a really valuable toolset for individuals, teams and organisations to improve well-being and engagement, boost productivity and proactively drive a healthy team culture.
