What is Digital Transformation?

Randy, Qaixen Director, discusses the different meanings of digital transformation and how you can introduce it to your business in his latest blog:

Is Digital Transformation just another buzzword?

If I was on Jeopardy and heard the phrase “the process of embedding technology into an organisation,” my response would be “What is digital transformation?”

Digital transformation is often heard in the business world. However, it doesn’t have to be only used there, it can be used in many situations – moving from posting letters to sending emails was a form of digital transformation.

In the context of the business world, digital transformation is specifically related to the use of digital technology to drive positive change and increase productivity thought the means of improving or digitising processes.

When truly adopting digital transformation, the aim is that the benefits greatly outweigh any potential negatives. Ultimately, ever since the launch of the PC in the 1970s, we have been on a journey of digital transformation.

Digital transformation: a new era

We are now in the era of digital transformation which can take advantage of cloud computing, the Internet of Things and more importantly the relatively early stages of artificial intelligence (AI) and quantum commuting.

One of the simplest processes that can be adopted as part of an organisation’s digital transformation journey is the digitising of contracts by means of moving from so-called wet signatures to digital signatures.

However, this is just one example of many possibilities that digitalisation can play within an organisation. The digital transformation journey is just that, it has a start and end but it’s important that you plan out your journey to ensure success.

Here at Qaixen, we often help companies with digitalisation – the process of migrating from analogue processes to digital processes. But we also, and more importantly, take look at existing processes that are already digitalised and reviewing them to identify any inefficiencies. Often, we find that organisations as a whole are not struggling with the process but individuals are  – so a key part of any digital transformation is training.
